How to use our compensation calculator
Our injury compensation calculator will give you an indicative claim valuation instantly, as well as telling you whether you can pursue your claim entirely online. Just tell us more about your injury in five short steps and try to answer the questions as accurately as possible to get a realistic valuation.
We'll ask for information about:
- The type of accident you're claiming for - do you need a medical negligence or accident at work claim calculator, for example?
- Your gender.
- The affected area of your body, the type of injury you suffered and its severity. You can add multiple injuries here if necessary.
- Any loss of earnings based on your annual salary and time spent off work.
- Extra expenses such as medical items and travel costs.
Once you've completed these questions, you'll get an estimate of your potential compensation. You can then fill in our secure contact form to arrange a call back from our advisors or pursue your claim online depending on its type.
Don't worry if you make any mistakes while using our personal injury compensation calculator. Simply hit the ‘Start again' button to go back and re-enter your answers correctly.
How accurate is our personal injury claims calculator?
How accurate is our personal injury claims calculator?
Providing your answers are accurate, our UK compensation calculator will give you an indicitive idea of the payout you can expect to receive for a successful claim. We source these figures from the 15th edition of the Judicial College Guidelines, as well as considering any financial losses you tell us about.
If you pursue a claim, your solicitor will give you an exact figure based on various factors including medical reports and evidence of financial losses. They will also discuss and agree any deductions such as a success fee, which our personal injury calculator does not factor in.
This means your final compensation could be higher or lower than the valuation our tool provides. But our compensation calculator ultimately makes for a reliable starting point and can provide you with peace of mind that your claim is worth pursuing.
How will my compensation be calculated?
How will my compensation be calculated?
When your solicitor assesses your claim to establish how much compensation you're entitled to, they'll combine two key elements:
- General damages, which are awarded for pain, suffering and loss of amenity (PSLA).
- Special damages, which are awarded for any financial losses or costs you've incurred.
What are general damages?
The term ‘general damages' describes money awarded for the type of injury you've suffered and how severe it is.
Measuring pain and suffering can be challenging, but your solicitor will refer to the Judicial College Guidelines, which set out fair compensation amounts for different types of injuries.
What are special damages?
Special damages cover any financial losses or expenses you've incurred as a direct result of your injury. The idea is that your compensation will put you back in the financial position you were in before your injury.
Special damages are calculated based on a range of expenses including:
- Loss of past and future earnings. Have you had to take time off, change jobs or stop working altogether?
- Medical treatment and care costs. Will you need ongoing care?
- Equipment and adaptations. Do you need tools or home alterations to live your life comfortably, such as a wheelchair or stairlift?
- Travel expenses. Did you have to take multiple trips over long distances to access medical care?

What are no win no fee claims?
What are no win no fee claims?
We handle most claims on a no win no fee basis, so you can claim the compensation you're entitled to while knowing you won't pay anything if your case loses. There are no upfront costs to worry about and you'll only pay if you win, provided you stick to the terms of your agreement and have suitable legal protection insurance in place.
We believe that everyone has the right to access legal representation. No win no fee agreements make sure you'll never be out of pocket after suffering an injury that wasn't your fault. Read more about no win no fee claims.
How long will it take to get my compensation?
How long will it take to get my compensation?
Our claim calculator will give you an instant valuation. We guarantee a fast claim assessment to tell you immediately whether you have a legitimate case. After this, the time it takes to reach a settlement and receive your compensation can vary based on factors such as:
- The nature and severity of your injury.
- How easy it is to collect accurate evidence.
- Whether the party you're claiming against admits liability or disputes your claim.
It could take anywhere from a few months to several years for your claim to settle, depending on the details of your case. Rest assured your solicitor will keep you updated throughout and do everything they can to help it progress.
Will anything be deducted from my compensation if I win?
Will anything be deducted from my compensation if I win?
Certain costs will be deducted from your compensation if your claim is successful. While the person or organisation you're claiming against may have to contribute to some of your legal costs, your solicitor will usually make deductions to cover:
- The cost of any insurance policy required to make your claim risk-free.
- Any legal costs that aren't paid by the opposing party.
- A ‘success fee', if applicable, as payment for their legal support, which acknowledges the risk that they won't be paid at all if your claim is unsuccessful.
Your solicitor will discuss these costs clearly and openly with you before starting your claim, and any deductions will be capped at a level agreed upon by you. This way you won't face any surprises.
And if your case loses, you won't pay anything at all. Read more about no win no fee charges.
What happens if my claim is unsuccessful?
What happens if my claim is unsuccessful?
Our personal injury claims calculator offers an idea of the compensation you could receive. But in the unlikely event that a solicitor agrees to take on your claim and it turns out to be unsuccessful, the important thing is you'll have nothing to pay whatsoever.
We usually arrange insurance known as After the Event (ATE) insurance on your behalf to make sure claiming is risk-free. This policy covers costs such as court fees, medical reports and barrister chargers. There are no upfront costs for taking out this insurance and you won't pay the policy fee if your claim is unsuccessful.
