Personal injury claims
Accidents can happen all the time. Most, thankfully, are quite small and don't have too much of an impact on us. But if you're involved in a more serious accident, it can lead to severe injuries. The pain and suffering are bad enough to deal with after an accident. Knowing that someone else is to blame can make things seem so much worse.
ClaimsPeople's specialist personal injury lawyers are here to help if you ever find yourself in that situation. But what does "personal injury" mean? Well, it's the legal name for any injury (or illness) that you suffer where someone else is to blame. And you have the legal right to make a personal injury compensation claim if it happens to you.
From slips and trips to life-changing brain injuries, it's important you get the compensation you deserve. If you're injured, get in touch with us and we can tell you right away if we think you have a valid personal injury claim. You can even get started without paying anything upfront. Why not request a call back or contact us and let us help you get your life back on track.
The different types of personal injury claims
Ankle injuries
Ankle injuries can occur from even the most innocuous incidents, such as a simple trip over a kerb, but that doesn't make them any less painful or difficult to deal with.
Back injuries
Back injuries can be hugely debilitating. They can be enormously painful and can drastically affect your movement, all of which can have a devastating impact on your quality of life.
Brain and head injuries
Brain and head injuries can be some of the most serious claims that our solicitors support. They can have a devastating - and even life-changing - impact on you and your family.
Eye injuries
You don't have to be left permanently blinded to start a personal injury claim. Any damage to your eye(s) can make it really hard to go about your daily life with confidence.
Fatal injuries
Sometimes, an accident can claim the life of a loved one. But you can still claim compensation on behalf of someone else - and our personal injury solicitors can help you.
Groin injuries
There are loads of muscles and ligaments in the upper legs and lower torso that can be injured in an accident. The consequences can be a lot more severe than you might first think.
Hip injuries
Hip injuries can be extremely painful, so it's only right that you make a claim that reflects your suffering and the impact it's having on your quality of life.
Jaw injuries
Any damage to your jaw can be incredibly painful. So, it's only fair that you can make an injury claim that reflects your suffering - as well as the potential impact on your day-to-day life.
Neck injuries
Neck injuries can be extremely serious, with potentially life-changing consequences. Your personal injury solicitors can help you seek compensation so that you can begin the road to recovery.
Serious injuries
Serious injuries can cover a wide range of circumstances. You can even claim compensation on behalf of someone else, if their injuries have left them unable to do so for themselves.
Spine injuries
The spinal cord is an incredibly delicate part of the body. If yours is damaged in an accident, it can have a lasting effect that only a personal injury claim can help you overcome.
Asbestos claims
If you were exposed to asbestos and have since been diagnosed with a related illness, you can call on our personal injury solicitors to help you get the compensation you deserve.
Amputations
Losing a limb can be devastating. If you've had an amputation after an accident or medical negligence, our panel of personal injury solicitors can support you in making a claim for compensation.
No win no fee personal injury solicitors
Nothing should stand in the way of you getting the compensation you are entitled to. That's why our personal injury solicitors can take your claim on a no win no fee basis.

What are no win no fee personal injury claims?
What are no win no fee personal injury claims?
A no win no feepersonal injury claim is where you'll have nothing to pay if you lose your case. You don't even need to pay anything upfront. It's also known as a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA) and it's a way of helping people get access to justice without the financial risk.
In practice, all legal costs are covered by your personal injury lawyer until the claim is settled. If your claim is a success, your lawyer will receive a pre-agreed share of your compensation. It's simple, it's risk-free, and you can start your injury claim today.

In 2019-20, there were nearly 830,000 personal injury claims in the UK. That's based on data from the government's Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU). The unit must be told whenever a successful claim is made - no matter the injury and however the accident happened.

How does the personal injury claims process work?
How does the personal injury claims process work?
If we think you do have a claim, the process will normally go like this:
- Your personal injury lawyer will find out how you've been affected. This might mean you need to provide some evidence to support your claim - like photos or medical records.
- With this information, your lawyer will contact the party at fault for your accident. It can be a person or an organisation.
- If the other party accepts fault, your lawyer will negotiate the compensation you're owed. If they don't, your lawyer will continue to pursue the claim as before.
- Once your personal injury claim is successful, you'll get your compensation. Your lawyer will take their payment as a share of that total amount. But in the unlikely event that it's not successful, you won't have anything to pay.
Is there a time limit to making a claim?
Is there a time limit to making a claim?
In almost every personal injury claim, you must start the process within three years of the date of your accident. It's usually a good idea to start your claim as soon as you can. This means the details will still be fresh in your mind. It can also be easier to collect the evidence needed.
In some cases, the three-year limit will only start from the date you discover the effects of your injuries - if it's not known right away. And there can even be some claims where that time limit doesn't apply at all. The only way to know for sure if you have a claim is to get in touch.

How long do personal injury claims take to settle?
How long do personal injury claims take to settle?
This is one question to which there is no single answer. Each personal injury claim takes as long as it takes to settle. The main reason is that you're unique - and so are the factors involved in your accident. These must all be considered to ensure you get the right compensation.
The one thing you can be certain of, however, is that your solicitor will do everything they can to make sure there are no delays. First, we'll assess your claim as fast as we can. Second, your injury solicitor looks after everything on your behalf - keeping you updated at all times.
Personal injury compensation: How much can I get?
Personal injury compensation: How much can I get?
Again, there's no single answer to this question. The amount of compensation you could get will depend on your injuries - and the impact they've had, but our claims calculator will give you a solid sense.
Your compensation amount will reflect your pain and suffering. But it's also meant to cover your costs too - such as lost earnings, future care needs, and any assistance you'll need in future.
To help us assess your claim, we'll use the Judicial College Guidelines (15th edition). This set of guidelines covers all personal injuries and helps your lawyer decide how much you should get.

How much will my claim cost?
How much will my claim cost?
We deal with claims on a no win no fee basis. As the name suggests, it means you won't have to pay anything if your claim isn't successful.
If you win your case, depending on your claim type and value, your opponent (the person or parties held responsible) may be required to contribute towards your legal costs. In most cases this contribution will only cover part of your legal costs and your solicitor will make a deduction from your compensation to cover costs such as:
- The cost of any insurance policy required to make your claim risk free
- Any legal costs, including fixed fees which are not recovered from the other side
- Where applicable a “success fee” which takes account of the fact if the claim is unsuccessful the solicitors won't get paid at all
Your solicitor will discuss this with you in advance, so you'll know what to expect when your claim settles. There are no hidden costs or surprises.
No win no fee insurance: Do I need it?
No win no fee insurance: Do I need it?
No win no fee - or 'after the event' - insurance is a good idea if making a personal injury claim. With it, all your legal costs are covered and you get complete peace of mind.
Your personal injury solicitor will arrange this cover for you. You will only pay for it if your case is successful, so there really are no upfront costs.
Do personal injury claims go to court?
Do personal injury claims go to court?
Most claims don't get as far as court. Your personal injury lawyer will negotiate with the party at fault for your accident to try to make sure it doesn't happen.
It's not always possible to settle your claim before it goes to court, however, if your lawyer isn't able to reach an agreement with the other party, formal court proceedings may be started.
If your injury claim does go to court, it's nothing to worry about. Your lawyer will make sure you're fully prepared for what this might involve.
What happens if I lose my claim?
What happens if I lose my claim?
If you don't win your claim, it can be frustrating and upsetting. But there won't be anything else you'll need to do afterwards. ClaimsPeople takes almost all cases on a no win no fee basis. So, there's nothing for you to pay in the unlikely event you don't get any compensation.
